The community of the first church was marked by its witness to the resurrection of Christ and its mission to evangelise (Acts 1:8, Acts 4:33). Even during those times in history when the church must maintain a discrete presence in society, or is even driven underground, its light forever burns brightly, for it is the inextinguishable and eternal Light of God. Just as at the beginning, this witness is not only verbal but also lived, as the members of the church embody the teachings of Jesus in their daily lives. The remarkable growth and influence of the first church were a testament to the effectiveness of Jesus' leadership, the dedication of His followers, and the reliance that these first saints placed on the comfort, guidance, and empowerment of the Holy Spirit. As they daily walked and talked with Jesus, He was present with them to
heal, to bless, and to save.
